In Memory

Thornton Percy

At age 41, "Thumper" passed away at his home in Tucson, AZ on Aug 1, 2003 after a long illness.  In 1985, Tumper earned a B.A. degree in Communication from the University of Arizona, where he joined the Lamda Chi Alpha Fraternity.   He was a 1980 graduate of Shaker Heights HIgh School, having grown up in the Ludlow and Lomond communities.  He dedicated his entire career to his work at KVOA-TV News in Tucson, where he was a photojournalist.  He earned numerous awards from the Arizona Associated Press and the National Press Photographers Association.  He combined photography with his love of sports and aviation, and his most coveted assignments included covering college football and parachuting from an Air Force F-16 jet.  He was a longtime volunteer for the Tucson Police Department's Summer GREAT Program, which provides anti-violence education  for at-risk children, and he volunteered as an instructor for the annual Bear Essential News for Kids Workshop.   His travels took him to the best ski slopes, roller coasters, and ocean cruise destinations.  A loving and dear friend, we will all miss him.

I was so sorry to hear that we lost Thumper. He was such a kind and gentle person; every time I think of him he still makes me smile.

Thumber was such a part of my high school life.  We did the Boston Mill ski club thing, then took it on the road with many to New York - Those of you that went remember the hell drives there and back. He was the funniest guy I ever new, and he cared about everyone.  I was truely blessed to have him my life. I wish I hadn't lost touch with him over the years.
